Legalization Oregon

Overnight, voters in Alaska, Oregon and Washington DC have voted to legalise cannabis for recreational use.

legalize dcThe US island territory of Guam approved a ballot to legalise medicinal cannabis  and Florida also voted for medicinal cannabis by 58% but it failed as a 60% vote is required. All over the US, smaller jurisdictions, counties, cities and towns, have also passed legislation on medicinal cannabis and decrimnalisation.

Last week in Britain we saw the shameful spectacle of just 21 MPs turning up to debate drugs policy for the first time in a generation.  David Cameron, Theresa May and the Westminster elite are arrogant, out of touch and detached both from scientific evidence and public opinion.

Authoritarian, Illiberal, Out Of Touch.

Authoritarian, Illiberal, Out Of Touch.

Nothing can excuse this failure of our democracy.  Britain is a laughing stock both in Europe and to the Americans.  We are regressing into a caricature of Dickensian history.  Little more than an ‘Old Curiosity Shoppe’ for tourists and the nostalgic.  Our government is concerned only with vested interests, politicians  lining their own pockets and an increasingly authoritarian and illiberal regime. These developments are humiliating for all those who cherish what was once Great Britain.  Surely, even those unconcerned or opposed to cannabis legalisation, must begin to realise that Westminster is destroying our country from within. On this,  the anniversary of Guy Fawkes’ failed attempt to blow up Parliament, who can doubt that he had the right idea?

  1. If your child became psychotic after taking cannabis & needed treatment for 10 years, you would not be shouting so loud for legalisation! Allow it on prescription for people with MS & other painful conditions but do not inflict it on our children.

    • I agree we need to protect children. Successive governments have simply abandoned our children and communities to street dealers and organised crime. It has been the most appalling act of government negligence.

The best way to protect children is to get the market out of the hands of crimnals and into licensed outlets where age limits are enforced. It won’t eliminate underage use but it will minimise it, exactly as proven in Holland and now Colorado where underage use is far less than in the UK.

      • Cannabis is harmful whether it is sold by criminals or by Governments. Instead of accusing people who disagree with you of ignoring the evidence or ignoring the facts you could at least consider the idea that they may be right.

      • But they’re not, they’re wrong and all the evidence from science and real life in countries where cannabis is legally regulated demonstrates their error.

Of course cannabis has the potential for harm but there are more health harms caused by sugar, coffee, hay fever remedies or peanuts. Everything, including water and milk can be harmful. All that is relevant is comparative harm. Present UK policy on cannabis maximises harm.

    • By NOT regulating it YOU are inflicting it on our children, i gets me how some people like YOU say these things without understanding what regulation is. who regulates cannabis NOW yes the criminal gangs who don’t care who they sell it to. so who has it wrong us or YOU. use your head and actually educate YOURSELF as there is way more to this than simply making it legal. are you aware of the medical benefits? are you aware that hemp which is none psychoactive which has thousands of practical uses are you aware of the social harm an unregulated market causes society. so before you are so quick to judge actually learn some FACTS. To many people have relied on the misinformation the government have spouted over the years, just because someone has a problem with it like mental health does NOT mean cannabis was the cause, these people may well have been already have a predisposition to mental health problems they just happened to use cannabis.

    • Do your research. No kids are at harm, it’s just false, proven by doctors and scientists in your own damn country! Come on you can’t tell me the UK is that far behind the facts….I refuse to believe that, don’t fall for the fear mongering like ignorance ofmy own country! We offer nothing to the world but death don’t be like the USA!

    • People who are prone to psychotic illness should avoid cannabis which is high in THC. If you didn’t know that and weren’t able to protect your child, then surely it is the government’s responsibility to educate you about the dangers and offer a regulated cannabis product which is low in THC in case your child should choose to try cannabis. That means, legalize and educate. Prohibition is the cause of your problems.

      • High cbd dope helps treat this… why dont we just legalise anything that is at least 50% cbd. You can get seeds from cbdcrew that are at this ratio its much better for you than pure thc anyway.

    • If we only allowed people to grow their own cannabis for personal use in their own home and kept it on the premises, surely that would be something to start on and maybe in the near future we will learn to show respect to the fact that cannabis like alcohol can have different effects on different people. If we are allowed to manage the use of this instead of the criminal system then we can at least live a little closer to a democratic society.

    • Your a parent so its your responsibility to check what your child is doing. As long as iys illegal drug dealers will push it and harder drugs. Nobody is asking for it for children albeit for serious medical conditions. I have a brain tumor there is no hope for me do you deny me the chance of life? I pay my taxes never broke the law but this law is unjust and plain wrong. Gordon Brown reclassified to B because of the daily mail i suggest you get your facts right phycosis is on the decline in the uk whilst cannabis use is on the increase. David nutt presented a paper on this very issue the incidence is so low its a side show. Decrimilaise for over 21 and legalise for all medical patents. I can go out at the weekend and drink myself to death all legally. Your child has more chance of dying from alcohol.

We the public will stand strong and united. Please release your grip on this herb we are suffering daily. It is absolutely amazing how you let people that voted for you. Suffer in this country, Let’s free cannabis and all move on from this despicable war on drugs. Think about terrorism now before it’s too late? Respect to the citizens of the UK.

  4. Perhaps devolution for the UK is the only answer, because what is happening in the US is entirely dependent on the existence of state legislatures and popular initiatives. We need to be able to conduct public awareness campaigns locally and vote on a regional basis, keeping Fleet St and Westminster well out of the picture.

    • Im in n ireland they are religious nutts over here and would ban beer if they coukd plus lock the play parks on a sunday. They did this for years when i was a child on a sunday the swings would have large padlocjs on them. I want the uk govt to rule the uk and apply the same policy to its people. The policy should be we give everyone a vote for it that way the people have their say.

  6. What amazes me more is even with Norman Bakers resignation still the media has hardly covered the story. Think you have an honest government and free press.

    • Its the media that kerp the issue alive them and the alcohol industry. I enjoy a beer however on principle i would consider stopping drinking in protest against their lobbying to ban cannabis.
