ITV Cock-Up The World Cup. Immediately!

with 22 comments

Unbelievable!  I would never, ever, not in a million years choose to watch any sporting event (or anything else I can think of) on ITV.

Now I know why and I know I’m right!

ITV Hopeless Dorks

Less than five minutes into the game, at a completely inappropriate moment, at the merest pause in play, it cuts to an ad.  I can’t even remember who it was only four minutes later, so it was a waste of time and money anyway.  Then the screen goes black for perhaps 20 seconds.  Then we get the pictures back – England have scored!

What absolute, unforgiveable INCOMPETENCE!

Only the BBC should be allowed to screen such important events.  ITV is useless .

Sack somebody now!

  4. Well its not the first time ITV have cocked up a major footie match… but so many techie glitches in the 1st half they should be ashamed!

  5. To be fair…

ITV3 is very good. It has the re-runs of Morse, Kavanagh QC, Frost, Taggart, Heartbeat. It’s great for third-rate pulp TV. No, that is unfair. A lot of it is classic TV and I’m genuinely glad it’s available – when I’ve nothing better to do,

ITV4! You can get The Sweeney, The Professionals, Ultimate Force. OK, it’s not exactly quality but when you feel like sausage and chips it’s great. It’s exactly what you want.

But then you go and give these jokers the responsibility of covering a major national event. Bad move. They’re not up to it.

Let ITV get on with providing us with pulp TV. Isn’t there something called Carnation Street that earns them a fair few quid?

Fair enough. But keep them well away from things that matter!

  6. No one has mentioned that they managed do the EXACT same thing in the FA cup final that also resulted in everyone missing a goal! HOW do they manage that? The odds of that happening and resulting in a missed Goal must be enormous its not like one is scored every 30 seconds…. People can you imagine how you would be feeling if that happened in the final seconds of the final leaving you without the greatest sporting moment safely tucked away in your memory? Cant happen ? Why not ? Ill be watching the BBC if we get there…………………….

  7. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t for the fact loads of people planned for months to watch this and had the one positive moment ruined by the ITV muppets

Enough is enough – we need a campaign to get all serious sports events off ITV and onto BBC as a matter of national interest

Everything about ITV is so lame it tarnishes whatever they cover

The early evening news beforehand was embarrassing – like the result of a 6th form media studies course student’s idea of what a news report on day of world cup game should be

    ITV = pathetic

  9. Now here’s a bizarre coincidence – or proof that God works in mysterious ways.

I realise that the ad that blacked out the goal last night was from Hyundai.

Guess which company built the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that’s destroyed the Gulf of Mexico?

    That’s right – Hyundai.

I’m more than happy to blame them for everything – including Robert Green’s mistake!

Mind you, if this gets onto the American blogs it’ll become one great big, enormous conspiracy theory.

  10. Not sure about the cup final but they certainly screwed up Dan Gosling’s derby debut goal For Everton against Liverpool exactly the same way!!!

    • ITV should never be allowed near football. They have the king of the cock-up pundit Kevin Keegan back on board! It’s not like they don’t have previous on the technical side of things, remember when they missed an late extra time Everton goal in a Merseyside cup derby in Feb 2009? Adrian Chiles may earn more cash but he will eventually regret going to work there!

  11. The sooner they lose their public broadcaster license the better, frankly.

I’ve got a video of exactly how ITV cocked up the goal on my blog.

    http://halftimewhistle.wordpress.com/2010/06/13/itv/

It’s just incredible that they went just before the goal, and came back just after the goal.

PS – loving the conspiracy theories on here. Keep ‘em coming!

  12. Maybe HD isn’t the future everyone thought it was going to be. ITV need to sort themselves out otherwise people may start thinking they are a joke Ha Ha

  13. Nice ads tho……………..

BTW re conspiracy theories, not too far fetched, over here in the Middle East three matches have been cut mid way thru due to ”someone” jamming the signal over free matches being aired and ”someone” being out of pocket….

  14. Looks like this was Robert Greens’s problem. Will ITV’s excuse be as good?

Yes, Alan. And he should have put his hands up at the time!

  18. The BBC, bless their little hearts, were being ever so diplomatic about this while sniggering up their sleeves. On Radio five they had listeners phoning in to vent their spleen against ITV, rather than have their own staff appearing to be smug about it.

Most of the callers had bought HD sets and subscriptions especially for the tournament. Gullible mugs like that probably deserve to be ripped off a bit by second rate broadcasters such as ITV.
